Sonora, Ca -- As the only media outlet in Tuolumne County to have been actually following the restaurant's slow crawl toward viability, Sierrabear is pleased to see that the real reporters at the Union Democrat are finally paying attention to what may be the end of a long and mysterious process, reporting in the July 17th edition, "You read it here first: The long-dormant Sonora restaurant is going to open, and soon."
Apparently, it's true this time. Jeb's may truly be opening it's doors soon. According to the article published in the Union Democrat by reporter Chris Bateman, the long wait is finally - maybe - over, though the name we've all come to associate with the mystery restaurant, "Jeb's Waffles and Ribs", may actually be know in the future as the oh-so-quaint "Jeb's Hill Country Cooking." With a name like that, maybe squirrel meat will be on the menu. One can only assume that the waitress will be wearing some some sort of costume-like, country-kitchen style garb - think Laura Ingalls. Will there be banjo music piped in? What do people cook and eat in "Hill Country?" Pine cone soup anyone? Sierrabear is delighted to see that the establishment is finally opening its doors. Though, as excited as we are, we are equally crushed by the name's disappointing lack of originality . Chick Brooks, the owner of numerous chain restaurants most likely knows what he's doing. At age 81, he been in the business for some time, but come-on, Mr. Brooks, that was a great name. Tuolumne County needs the jobs, so even with all the pros and cons, we aren't ones to look a gift horse in the mouth, even if that horse will be on the menu. Jeb's is open: Read the Sierrabear Review
