Every once in a while someone has to take a moment to point out how skewered some folks thought processes are. Let me take this letter to the Editor from a Sonora neighbor, fortunately not my neighbor, and hopefully not yours.
Hopefully, this gentleman has since seen his physician and is taking his prescribed medications (which I assume is Prozac or Thorazine).
To the editor: When you look back in American history, you will find that there are few times when the American patriot has the opportunity to truly defend our Constitution and America’s freedom.
From Merriam-Webster dictionary
PATRIOT: ONE WHO LOVES HIS OR HER COUNTRY AND SUPPORTS ITS AUTHORITY AND INTERESTS
Today is a unique period of time where government tyranny is rampant at all levels from local to federal. While our military is attacked at home, Congress — instead of wearing black arm bands and uniting the American people — was busy enacting laws that could be construed as unconstitutional. ("Government tyranny is rampant...." Maybe under Bush/Cheney, but name a tyrannical act of late? The rest of this statement is psycho babble from an obvious unpatriotic person. A lone gunman murdered and several injured on a military base.)
TYRANNY: OPPRESSIVE POWER; A GOVERNMENT IN WHICH ABSOLUTE POWER IS VESTED IN A SINGLE RULER
OPPRESSIVE: UNREASONABLY BURDENSOME OR SEVERE
RAMPANT: PROFUSELY WIDESPREAD
Government at all levels is spending money while unemployment is breaking records with no end in sight. The media has been suppressed to the point that CNN had better coverage than Fox during the massacre at Fort Hood. (SAY WHAT!? This is what happens when you give the uneducated and uninformed nothing but the republicon play-book. They only know how to parrot the absurd talking points for the day.) The time has never been better for the American patriot to stand up and be counted. As I see people chastising those American patriots that carry their anti-abortion and in support of the military troops signs and over-taxation tea parties, they do not understand that they are all saying the same thing. (Now how does interfering with a woman's relationship with her physician; how does denying an American the right to control their own body make one a patriot? Sounds more like it is making that controlling person the tyrannical one. Sounds like our friend is really screwed up, maybe increase that Thorazine dosage.)
The message that they are all trying to convey is that individual freedom is the basis of our constitutional rights and that there is no place for government tyranny. Individuals, not government control, should be responsible for choices in life.(ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC! "Individuals, not government control, should be responsible for choices in life." And that has what to do with, "As I see people chastising those American patriots that carry their anti-abortion...signs. So you do not mind tyranny as long as it is YOUR tyrant running the show. Now we get it, do it your way or the highway. Sound patriotic and democratic logic. Presently, I see less than 1 percent of American patriots in the streets expressing their desire to take back the country from government tyranny. I would guess that this is probably about the same number of people that started the American Revolution that gave us those individual rights. Keep it up patriots. We support you.(Only good news from this whack job is only 1% think like him. Also, it sounds like to me at least, that this "patriot" Mr. XXXX is calling for a revolution.
REVOLUTION: a sudden, radical, or complete change b : a fundamental change in political organization; especially : the overthrow or renunciation of one government or ruler and the substitution of another by the governed
So he is calling for the destruction of the current government, destroying the current constitution and putting in his own government!? Sounds like Mr. XXXX is studying under Fidel Castro, or Lenin, not Thomas Jefferson or John Adams. His justification for overthrowing the American government? Some people "chastised" some folks for carrying signs protesting abortion (a Constitutionally protected right)?
Three things-If you get it and can explain it to me logically, go for it. Also, I hope he is right that there is only "1%" who think like him, unfortunately, I think it is more like 15-20%. Finally, let us do all we can to have mental health services available in Tuolumne County-Mr. XXXX could be our "poster boy."
