The Mother Lode Reading Council's Annual Winter Tea will be held at Union Hill Inn, 21645 Parrotts Ferry Road, Columbia, on Tuesday, February 9, 4:30-6:30 p.m.  Teachers, librarians, students, literacy advocates and community members are invited to join the group for a festive tea with tasty hors d'oeuvres and elegant desserts.   The Inn's atmosphere will invite all to mingle with friends, listen to book talks regarding the California Young Reader Medal Award winners, and receive literature activities connected to these books.  MLRC members will receive two hours of credit toward university units.

Those bringing a new member will pay only $15 and will receive five free tickets for the evening's book and literacy materials drawing. Renewing members will be charged $55 for the tea and membership.  New members may enroll and attend the tea for $50.  Current members who are student teachers or retirees may attend for $20. 

The Mother Lode Reading Council is a professional organization affiliated with the California Reading Association (CRA) and the International Reading Association (IRA).  Membership is open to all teachers, students, parents, administrators, paraprofessionals, librarians, and others interested in the promotion of literacy.  If you are interested in the group’s events or wish to join the MLRC, please contact President Debbie Cowan, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Benefits of membership include belonging to the California Reading Association and receiving the state journal, The California Reader; a quarterly MLRC Newsletter, reduced rates for CRA and MLRC conferences and events, bookstore discounts (usually 10%), and college credit and Continuing Education units through Fresno Pacific University.  Reduced fees for membership are available for students, first-year teachers and retirees.
